How to Measure Your Foot

  1. Tape a piece of paper to the floor against a wall. Stand on it with your heel against the wall.
  2. Mark the longest toe — usually the big toe, but for some people it's the second toe. Use a pen held straight up and down.
  3. Measure the distance from the edge of the paper (where your heel was) to the mark. This is your foot length in inches or centimeters.
  4. Measure both feet — most people have one foot slightly larger. Use the larger measurement to find your size.
  5. Add 0.5 cm (about ¼ inch) to your measurement for a comfortable fit, or 1 cm for a roomier feel.
Pro tip: Measure your feet at the end of the day when they're at their largest. Feet swell slightly throughout the day, and a morning measurement may result in buying shoes that are too tight.

Brand-Specific Sizing Notes

Nike

Most Nike sneakers (Air Force 1, Air Max, Dunk) run true to size. Air Force 1 can feel slightly roomy — some go half a size down.

Air Jordan

Jordan retros vary by model: Jordan 1 and 4 run true, Jordan 3 runs slightly narrow, Jordan 5 and 11 run a bit large — half size down is common.

Adidas

Adidas tends to run slightly larger than Nike. Many people go half a size down from their Nike size. Ultraboost fits snug — stay true to size. Samba runs narrow.

New Balance

NB is known for consistent sizing across models. 550 runs slightly large. 2002R and 990 run true to size. Wide widths available in many models.

HOKA

HOKA runs true to size for most models. Clifton and Bondi have a wide toe box. Speed models (Mach, Rocket) fit snugger — half size up for wide feet.

Brooks

Brooks runs true to size. Ghost and Glycerin have a standard fit. Adrenaline GTS is slightly more structured. Wide and extra-wide options available.

On-Running

On shoes tend to run slightly small. Half a size up is common, especially for the Cloud 5 and Cloudmonster. CloudX fits more true to size.

Asics

Asics generally runs true to size. Gel-Kayano is a standard fit. Gel-Nimbus has a wider toe box. Gel-1130 and retro runners may run slightly narrow.

Balenciaga

Track and Speed models run large — go a full size down. Triple S runs about a half size large. If you're between sizes, size down.

Louis Vuitton

LV sneakers (Trainer, Archlight) generally run true to size. The Trainer can feel slightly narrow — half size up if you have wide feet.

Gucci

Gucci sneakers run slightly large. Ace and Rhyton: half size down is common. Screener runs more true to size. Always check individual product pages for notes.

Nike vs Adidas Size Comparison

29.511.511Nike +0.5
301211.5Nike +0.5
Key takeaway: For the same foot length, Adidas assigns a US size that's about 0.5 smaller than Nike. If you wear a Nike 9, you'll likely wear an Adidas 9.5 — but this varies by model, so always check.

Width Sizing Guide

LabelWidth CodeDescription
Standard / MediumD (Men) / B (Women)Fits most feet — the default for most sneakers
Wide2E (Men) / D (Women)Wider forefoot and toe box area
Extra Wide4E (Men) / 2E (Women)Significantly wider across the ball of the foot
NarrowB (Men) / 2A (Women)Snugger fit for slimmer feet
Not all brands offer wide/narrow widths. New Balance and Brooks have the most extensive width options. Nike and Adidas generally produce standard width only, with some models in wide. HOKA's wider toe box naturally accommodates wider feet without needing a dedicated wide size.

Sizing Tips for Wholesale Buyers

Size run recommendations: For retail stores, the most common size run for men's sneakers is 8-13 (skipping half sizes above 10.5). The highest-velocity sizes are typically 9-10.5 — stock deeper in these. For women, 7-9 is the core range.
Seasonal fit shifts: Feet tend to swell in summer. If you're stocking for warm months, customers may prefer a slightly roomier fit. Winter layering with thick socks means some buyers size up half a size for boots and insulated models.
Online returns due to sizing: Inconsistent brand sizing is the #1 reason for returns in online footwear. Providing clear size guides on your product pages reduces returns significantly — link to this guide from every product page.
